The Physical Nature and Appearance of the Voluntas Time Capsule

The capsule is fabricated from copper and is a cube with the following dimensions:

Incised on the front of the capsule is the following inscription:

VOLUNTAS TIME CAPSULE

TO BE OPENED NOVEMBER 23
IN THE YEAR TWO THOUSAND AND FIFTY.
"NOTHING HAPPENS UNLESS FIRST A DREAM."

(The quotation is from the American poet Carl Sandburg)

As of spring, 1996, the capsule was weathering well, scarcely discolored, thought it had been out in the open almost six years. Capsule contents were loaded with square side (2 ft by 2 ft) facing up, but it has been on the ledge "standing on end" with the square side vertically aligned.

The capsule was fabricated by Southwest Metal Products of Santa Fe, New Mexico, As of spring 1996, their address remained as 3142 Rufina Street in Santa Fe, Tel (505) 473-4575.

The legend described above was incised on the capsule by a metal – and woodworker (furniture) who lived in Madrid, New Mexico

Jim Thomas, P.O. Box 164 Cerrillos, NM, 87010

The video in Packet #1 on the Voluntas Residence Dedication in September 1991, has sots of the Capsule and a presentation on it by Liz Bryan.
